How to Find The Opposite Type of a Brake Caliper?

How to Find The Opposite Type of a Brake Caliper?

You have a part number of a truck, bus or trailer’s brake caliper. However, you need the opposite side and don’t know what you do. How can you identify that? It is quite simple if you follow these basic rules below:

KNORR-BREMSE

For the Knorr-Bremse calipers, the best way is to look “II” or “K” or “Z” number. The opposite side of caliper will be probably +1 or -1.

Example: While K000771 is right side, K000772 is left.

Usually, the reference code +1 is left.

Also, you can use type number of the caliper like SN7…

Example: While SN7081 is right side, SN7091 is left.

It is also like above, +10 is usually left side of a caliper.

MERITOR

For the Meritor calipers, you can usually follow LRG numbers. If the LRG number is ending by 0/2/4/6/8, the caliper belongs to left side. For right side, you can add left number +1.

Example: While LRG638 is left, LRG639 is right side.

Exceptions:

  • LRG668 which has no opposite. It is special to US market.
  • LRG669 is left and the opposite LRG670 is right.

WABCO

For the Wabco calipers, you have to follow lowest number for the left side. And, the right is +1.

There is no specific ending like Meritor.

Example: 40 175 056 is left while 40 175 057 is right side.

HALDEX

Haldex is unlike others brands. Most of part numbers are compatible for both side. There is no opposite.

Exceptions:

  • Latest “Modul T” that is compatible for SAF Axle have 94618 for right and 94619 for the left.
